The Citizen Academy is your opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how the City of Washougal operates. Designed for Washougal residents and business owners who want to be more involved in their community, this six-week program offers an inside look at city government, key services, and decision-making processes.

Program Details

Duration: 6 sessions, 2026 Spring Class, April 16-May 21, 2026
Participants must be able to attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions, but full participation is strongly encouraged!
Schedule: Thursdays, 6-8 PM
Location: Washougal Community Center located at 1681 C Street, Washougal
Cost: Free (all materials provided)

Who Can Participate?

The Citizen Academy is open to residents and business operators in Washougal who want to expand their knowledge of city government and civic engagement. Space is limited to thirty-six so apply early!.

How to Apply

Applying is easy! Use the Citizens Academy Application here. Applications will be accepted until seats are filled. Those selected will be notified a couple of weeks prior to the start of class. If you are not selected this time, your application will be considered for future sessions.

Stay Connected

Graduates of the Citizen Academy will be encouraged to share their knowledge, engage in discussions with their community, and explore volunteer opportunities, including serving on boards and commissions. WASHOUGAL CITIZEN'S ACADEMY RULES:
1. Arrive on time for each session and stay for the duration. (6:00pm-8:00pm)
2. Make every effort to attend all 6 sessions. Only one missed session is allowed for successful completion of the program.
3. Photos, video and information of participants obtained during the program may be used by the city in marketing efforts.
4. Interact with classmates, participate in activities and have fun!
