Slurry seal is a key part of the City of Washougal’s preventive maintenance program to maximize the service life of our roads. The City of Washougal has hired an independent contractor to slurry the surface of several streets starting next week.
Please review the list of the streets we plan to slurry seal this year in the attachments below. We have an estimated start date of July 30. If your street is on the Daily Street-to-Street Schedule 2019 Washougal document you will receive a two day notice on your front door.
Slurry Seal Dates (2019)*
*This road work depends on dry road conditions and will be rescheduled if there is inclement weather. After it has been applied, it must dry completely before anyone can drive on it.
What is Slurry Seal?
Slurry seal is a mixture of slow setting emulsified asphalt, well graded fine aggregate, mineral filler, and water. It is used to fill cracks and seal areas of old pavements, to restore a uniform surface texture, to seal the surface to prevent moisture and air intrusion into the pavement, and to improve skid resistance.
On the day we slurry seal, we will need your help to expedite the work:
- Park your vehicle on another street.
- Remove basketball hoops, motor homes/recreational vehicles, and lawn equipment from the road.
- Move sprinklers away from the pavement. When water hits a slurry seal, it ruins the treatment.
- Limit pedestrian activity near the work area. There will be a lot of machinery in the area and we want everyone to be safe.
Our goal is to minimize any inconvenience this work might cause. If you have questions about this project or any other road maintenance work, please contact us at (360) 835-2662 ext. 205 or visit our website at https://cityofwashougal.us.
