Beginning July 26, the City of Washougal will have an independent contractor apply chip seal, sweep and apply a fog seal to some city streets. For these two days parking will not be allowed on the street from 7am to 7pm.
Timeline
July 26-27
Chip seal will be applied to the streets on this map. All streets will be temporarily closed during this process and flaggers will direct traffic through the construction zone.
August 2-3
Fog seal will be applied; this process will not start in the early morning but late morning/early afternoon. Depending on the weather the fog seal can cure as quickly as 30 minutes, or take up to 2-3 hours. During the cure time all vehicular and pedestrian traffic must stay off the surface. Flaggers will control traffic flow through the construction zone.
Where will the work happen?
Use this map to find out if your street will have a chip and fog seal applied.
What is chip seal?
Chip seal is a pavement surface treatment constructed by evenly distributing a thin base of hot bitumen and then embedding finely graded aggregate into it. The aggregate is evenly distributed over the seal spray and then rolled into a smooth pavement surface. This treatment seals out water and provides a good wear surface with skid resistance.
What is fog seal?
The chip rock is covered with a fog seal to extend the life of the new surface.
The city’s goal is to minimize the inconvenience this might cause and provide you with an improved road surface. Your participation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
This road work depends on dry road conditions. Work will be rescheduled if there is inclement weather or mechanical breakdown.
