The City of Washougal is now accepting applications from eligible Washougal residents to fill a vacancy in Position #1 on the City Council. The process will be as follows:
Wednesday, March 24 – Applications due by 5:00 pm to the City Clerk.
Monday, March 29– Interviews will take place and appointment may occur at a Special Council meeting at 6:00 pm.
Council Position #1 is designated as Mayor beginning with the November 2021 election cycle. The person appointed to fill the current vacancy for Position #1 does not automatically become the Mayor in late November 2021. If the appointed person wishes to continue serving as a Councilor they will need to file and run for one of the other positions that are part of the 2021 election cycle (Positions #3 and #6 are on the 2021 ballot for new four-year terms, Position #5 is on the ballot for a two-year term to complete the unexpired term). The appointed person could also choose to file and run for Mayor (Position #1), or could choose to only serve until late November 2021, when the person who wins the election for Mayor (Position #1) would take office.
To be eligible to be appointed to the Washougal City Council, you:
Must have continuously resided within the Washougal city limits for a minimum of one year prior to your appointment to the Council, and
Must be a registered voter in the City of Washougal.
