Dick Beaver Park

Dick Beaver Park, located at 1200 “A” Street, is a tiny park with big responsibilities. As the SR-14 Pedestrian Tunnel project nears completion, connection from the revitalized downtown district to the Columbia River and Steamboat Landing Park becomes a highly anticipated experience. How does Beaver Park fit into the tunnel picture? Beaver Park assumes the important role of a mitigation site for impacts caused by tunnel construction. The mitigation design purposefully incorporates native trees and shrubs important to winged creatures: butterflies, hummingbirds, songbirds and bees. Creating a space where wildlife gathers offers an educational element, where visitors step into a space and experience a more intimate look at creatures that are beneficial to our culture and food system. Trees and shrubs on the Beaver Park planting plan include: Bitter Cherry, Baldhip Rose, Blue Elderberry, Indian Plum, Mock-Orange and Red-Flowering Currant. Watch for Beaver Park to transform from a sleepy little grass patch to a thriving garden that blooms, buzzes and flutters with activity. |
