11 Best Practices

To assure that the Washougal's fleet is cost effective we utilize about 11 "Best Practices" for the fleet industry. This covers management functions, including purchasing, inventory monitoring, and equipment disposal.

  • We have on site fueling and inventory control of fuel.
  • A fuel leak detection system was built in capture of 100%.
  • We have an inter governmental agreement with Clark County for special maintenance repairs that we are not able to perform.
  • We use a work-order system that is generated by miles, hours or days. This assures all equipment is serviced to factory recommendations.
  • Preventative maintenance is built into the system; this assures everything is ready to work at any time.
  • We utilize a data system that has the capability to collect information on each piece of equipment. This includes date of purchase, manufacture, serial number and cost.
  • There is a log on each vehicle that records all repairs and parts for the life of the vehicle. This information is useful when considering replacement.
  • We use several parts suppliers to maintain a state of competition. This encourages best prices.
  • Maintenance standards, such as tune-ups and tire replacements are established based on the manufacturers recommendations and state laws.
  • Reassignment or rotation of vehicles as they become older is recommended to department managers.
  • Best price or trade in for vehicle salvage is our goal when replacement has been determined
