The City of Washougal's Code Enforcement Office is responsible for enforcing Chapters 9, 15, 16, 17, and 18 of Washougal's Municipal Code. Enforcement actions are taken both proactively and in response to incoming complaints.
By working in partnership with the citizens of Washougal to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment, we help maintain or improve the quality of our community by enforcing laws and codes targeted to solve specific problems within the community - such as:
  • Public nuisances:  trash, debris, overgrown vegetation encroaching the right-of-way, and inoperable and unlicensed vehicles on private property.
  • Zoning or land use violations.
  • Substandard or dangerous buildings.

By working with residents, neighborhood associations, public service agencies, and other City of Washougal departments, we are able to:
  • Facilitate voluntary compliance with City ordinances and codes.
  • Enable neighborhoods to participate in keeping problem areas cleaned up.
  • Develop ways to solve recurring problems and nuisances.
Common Violations
The following are violations of the Washougal Municipal Code:
  • Accumulations of garbage, trash, junk, or recyclable materials.
  • Inoperable or unlicensed vehicles.
  • Signs in or over the right-of-way, excluding political signs.
  • Encroaching on or obstructing the public right-of-way.
  • Overgrown vegetation; noxious weeds
  • Unsecured abandoned buildings
Illegal Signs
The City of Washougal is committed to the safety of our citizens and the sustainability of our neighborhoods. Limitations have been placed on signs in an effort to reduce clutter, eradicate sight obstructions, and remove obstacles that may impede the free use of the public right of way for all citizens. All signs must conform to the requirements set forth in the Washougal Municipal Code.
