The City of Washougal was recently honored with the WellCity Award by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) at their Employee Health Academy.  This is the eighth consecutive year that Washougal has earned this award.

Washougal was one of 35 Washington cities and towns that received recognition for its workplace wellness program.  The WellCity Award recognizes cities and towns that demonstrate best practices in employee health promotion. A city must meet the minimum criteria in each of 9 WellCity standards to receive the award.

The highlight of 2009 program was our 2nd annual Walk-Your-Way competition with neighboring city Camas.  Employees compete in a six-week aerobic competition that begins on June 1st where aerobic minutes are tabulated, and weekly progress is reported by both cities.  Camas won the competition the first year, Washougal the second.   

Well designed, worksite wellness programs help reduce employee health risks and health care costs.  Beginning in 2011, city wellness programs that qualify for the WellCity Award will earn a 2% premium discount on medical premiums for employees and their covered spouses.
